Ingredients
1 packet (500g) self raising flour
1 cup sugar
2 tablespoons syrup
125g margarine
2 eggs
2 cups boiling water
1 teaspoon bi-carb
pinch of salt
cocoa
1 teaspoon vanilla essence
500g dates
Method
Put dates, sugar, margarine and bi-carb into boiling water.
When cooled add dry ingredients and beaten eggs.
Bake in a greased pan at 160 degrees Celcius for 1 1\2 hours.
Instead of using only dates, 250g fruit and nuts and 250g dates can be used.
